What is an MPU?
The MPU (medical-psychological assessment, Medizinisch-Psychologische Untersuchung) is an expert report on whether you can safely take part in road traffic again. It is usually ordered after alcohol from 1.6 ‰, drugs, 8 points in Flensburg or criminal offences.

Why preparation pays off
The interview is decisive.
The most important part of the MPU is the 45 to 60-minute psychological interview. It shows whether you've understood what happened back then – and what has changed since.
Proof takes time.
For alcohol or drugs, the MPU usually requires proof of abstinence over 6 or 12 months. Start early and you won't lose any months.
Unprepared, it gets tight.
According to widely cited figures, only about a third pass without preparation. Good counselling improves your chances considerably – without tricks and without learning by heart.

What does MPU Plus cost?
Nothing for you. The counselling services we refer you to pay us a monthly fee. It doesn't affect what you pay for counselling.
What does an MPU cost in total?
Realistically 1,500 to 4,000 euros, depending on the reason. This includes the assessment centre fee, preparation and, for alcohol or drugs, proof of abstinence.
How long does preparation take?
Usually two to three months with 10 to 12 sessions. Time is often tight because of the proof of abstinence, which runs for 6 or 12 months. That's why it pays to start early.
From what level of alcohol do I need an MPU?
Usually from 1.6 per mille on a single drive. For repeated drink-driving, it can also be ordered below that.
Do I have to hand in a negative expert report?
No. You decide for yourself whether to submit an expert report to the driving licence authority. The authority only knows what you submit.
